Throughout the summer
and other seasonal occasions, Umbanda percussion workshops are often seen
at PTA events, Village days, fetes, festivals and other community days
around Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Oxfordshire and the
surrounding area; creating a carnival atmosphere with our 'Rolling Beats'
sessions.
We usually set up our van and tented village of gazebos, under and around
which drums and percussion instruments from around the world sit awaiting
anybody wishing to join us in drumming activity. We keep the beats rolling
along and look forward to being part of a unique musical experience. We
have been known to play for four to six hours at a time lapping up the
rhythms as they change and develop each time some new drummers join us
drumming.
Umbanda
rolling beats
There are drums for you to play from
all around the world: choose one and join in at your own pace. Find your
rhythm and get going. People of all ages can join in if the Umbanda drummers
are playing, listen up, find your beat and become part of the band!
The facilitators will help you find rhythms to play and give basic instruction
on the drums and percussion available
Throughout history communities have come together to make music and this
is an opportunity for you to make music with other people. No experience
is required to take part and enjoy drumming with others!
You can stay for five minutes and
shake a little, or stay for two hours and have a go on djembes, tom-toms,
frame-drums, samba-drums, bells, shakers, congas and dumbeks, the choice
is yours and you are welcome for as long as you stay.
Tribal rhythms, Samba rhythms and rhythms of your own make the festival
happen during these informal events as we drum up the sun!
We have also, provided drumming sessions at Christmas and Autumn Fayres,
Bonfire nights, Craft and Artist events and other festivals such as The
Mexican Day of the Dancing Dead and the Beltane Celtic festival! Drumming
is of course an excellent way to celebrate any time of year and, although
we find participants and would be drummers prefer to be dry and warm,
give us ring about how we might be able to provide drumming; whatever
the British weather throws at us!
